If you are a new blogger, you might be trying to figure out how to manage your time so that it does not feel like blogging has taken over your life. If done correctly, blogging can be a fun and relaxing hobby, but if done incorrectly it can be time-consuming and annoying. Here I will give you 10 time management tips every blogger should know about to make blogging fun and exciting.
TIP 1: SET GOALS
Look at blogging as a career. When you are working you have goals that either you set for yourself or that your company has set for you. Everyone needs goals. Set your goals to something you know you can meet that way you do not get discouraged with your blog. If you get discouraged then you will not be a successful blogger. So, if you are a new blogger set your goal to something like I want to post 2 articles a week for x amount of time and then increase to 4 articles a week. Do not make it something you cannot control. For instance, you cannot control your traffic so do not make your goal that you want 100,000 followers within the first year. Make it realistic and something you personally can achieve.
TIP 2: ORGANIZE
Just like if you were at work, stay organized! The minute, no, the second your blog gets disorganized is when you will not want anything to do with it because it will become more of a chore than anything. You do not want your blog to become a chore because just like if you get discouraged, you will not want anything to do with your blog, if it becomes a chore you will not want anything to do with your blog. Stay organized so that way you can have fun at blogging.
TIP 3: JUST WRITE
When it is time to write, just start writing. Sometimes by just brainstorming you come up with great ideas. So, even if you do not know what exactly to write about brainstorm. You are wasting time if you sit down to write and just sit there daydreaming. Your blog will not write itself. Brainstorming can be the most productive part of writing.
TIP 4: DRAFTS
Remember when you are writing that there will be multiple drafts for one post. The best thing to do is once you have come up with what you are going to write about, just type away. Do not hit the backspace key on your first draft. Just let it be what it is. Then on your second draft go in there and clean it all up. By hitting the backspace key on your first draft you are not only wasting time, but you could be wasting a thought.
TIP 5: TURN OFF AND TUNE OUT DISTRACTIONS
When you are working on your blog turn off social media, turn off your cell phone, shut down the television, and turn off whatever could be a distraction to you. Every time you get distracted from writing, you are wasting your own time. So just do not allow the distractions to be in your writing world and turn them off.
TIP 6: SET A TIMER
Sometimes we all say we will stop working at such and such time but then lose track time. One easy way to not lose track of time and to stay on a schedule is to set a timer. When the timer goes off times up and it is time for you to move on with your personal life.
TIP 7: DO NOT GET OFF SUBJECT
Write to what your blog is about. Your readers do not want to read something about cars if they are reading an article about houses. Stick to the topic. By getting off the subject you are potentially putting yourself up for failure. Meaning your readers’ might un-follow your blog just because you went off subject. Stay on topic.
TIP 8: OVERWHELMING MOMENTS
When you feel as though blogging is overwhelming, stop for a second and take a deep breath. Now you can start making out two different lists, one that says urgent and the other that says non-urgent. Decide what is post important to get done first get those done and then start working on your non-urgent list. By doing this blogging instantly becomes non-overwhelming and fun again.
TIP 9: HAVE A ROUTINE
We, as humans, are creatures of habit. If we have a routine from the start, we tend to stick to it. Get in a routine and stick to it. If you decide only to write on Monday’s and Friday’s from 8 am to 12 pm then stick to that. By having a routine, you will be much more proactive and fruitful in the blogging world.
TIP 10: ONLY CHECK STATS ONCE A MONTH
You can overdo it when it comes to checking your stats. Everyone wants their blog just to start soaring from the starting gates. However, it takes time to get followers, and by checking the stats too often, you can start to get discouraged and stop writing altogether. Stay active and only check your stats once a month.
These are my opinions, and I’m sure different things have worked for different people. I know some people who check stats everyday, but I find myself spending more time checking then writing, so I limit these things.
